West Ham 3-1 Hereford United | FA Cup 4th Round Replay - 14th February 1972

Documentary on Hereford travelling up to London for the replay after a 0-0. Replay was played during the day on a weekday because of the 3 day week, but the crowd was 42,000+.

Arrived with all gates closed and thousands milling around outside only reason I managed to get in was I told a copper I was a Police Cadet - thought it would go nowehere - he says come with me - only managed to get in for free tucked in under the main stand. Happy days.

Here it is. One of the best goals I've seen at UP from Patsy Holland v Hereford Cup 74. Bonds sets him away on the half way line and he goes past four of there players into the penalty area before scoring at 50 seconds

, yes indeed just watched the link, memory playing games was getting mixed up with the 74 game when Holland jinxed down the wing cut in and scored, saw that game then must have watched it later on TV.

I'm sure I watched this on the telly, remember Patsy Holland coming on and running down the wing in the mud and scoring without watching the link? I started going the season after and always think I went to this game when mentioned but in fact it was the 74 FA Cup game with Hereford at UP that I went to Bobby's and Ade Cokers last games.

I think I had to throw a sicky for this one. Only just got into the north bank before they closed the gates. There were thousands locked out. Crowd would have been at least 50,000 I reckon.
Proper blokes, playing proper football on a muddy pitch with a heavy leather ball.

I was working at Tilbury docks left work at midday got in the south bank at 1-30 just before they shut the gates.

My old man kept me off school. Went to work with him then straight to the game. Only just got in before the gates were locked, loads of people didnt get in.

That was some crowd and i recall all the fans on the roof of the flats behind the North Bank

A lot of sick grans and grandads around at the time ;-)
